WCEF2025 Accelerator Session:
Empowering Local Action: Circular Solutions in Agriculture
This WCEF2025 Accelerator Session falls under the Nature Track. It will explore how circular economy approaches in agriculture, agro-industries and cold chains can mitigate the sector’s impact on climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss. The session aligns with PS7 (Circular Bioeconomy – Food), PS10 (Circular Bioeconomy – Nature-Based Solutions) and PS6 (Business, Finance & Partnerships-Solutions for Improving Circularity). About
This session will showcase successful policy frameworks, financial mechanisms, and business cases that have enabled circular solutions in agricultural value chains. Discussions will focus on improving circularity to address environmental challenges such as air pollution, waste management and climate change, with an emphasis on post-harvest solutions, including low-GWP cold chain management, food waste minimization and nature-based packaging.
Case studies from Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica and Viet Nam will highlight innovations presented by policymakers, the private sector, and agricultural associations, incorporating perspectives from local communities and Indigenous populations on integrating traditional knowledge into circular agriculture. The session will also explore how farmers and value chain actors contribute to the circular bioeconomy through nature-based solutions and energy efficiency measures, examining the financial incentives that drive adoption.
