About
The Global Environment Facility (GEF) is a multilateral financial mechanism that provides funding to help developing countries address global environmental challenges such as biodiversity loss, climate change, land degradation, and pollution. It operates as a partnership of 186 member countries, international institutions, civil society, and the private sector, channeling resources into environmental projects aligned with global conventions.
The GEF Assembly is the highest governing body of the GEF. It meets every four years and brings together all member countries to review the organization’s overall direction, assess performance, and set strategic priorities for the next funding cycle. It serves as a high-level forum for dialogue among governments and key stakeholders on global environmental priorities.
The 8th GEF Assembly refers to the upcoming edition of this global gathering. It is the latest convening of the GEF’s governing body, where members will make key decisions on future programming, resource allocation, and institutional priorities. It also serves as a platform to reflect on past results, announce new commitments, and strengthen international cooperation on environmental action.
