About the event

The EU-Resource Efficiency Initiative (EU-REI) (2017-2023) for India aims to support India in the implementation of the United Nations Global Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) agenda by adopting international standards and best practices in business on resource efficiency and circular economy and nurturing the efficient and sustainable use of natural resources. The EU-REI aims to facilitate partnerships between Indian and European businesses and stakeholders on Resource Efficiency (RE) and Circular Economy in sectors of interest. It is implemented on behalf of the European Union by a consortium led by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), Confederation of the Indian Industry (CII) and adelphi.

As part of this initiative, EU-REI and GIZ India hosted a stakeholder consultation on “Partnerships and Collaboration for Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency” on December 18 in New Delhi, India and online. Circular Innovation Lab took part in hosting the stakeholder consultation as part of our Outlook Report on 'Exploring New Market Opportunities for EU-Based Businesses in India and New Business Partnerships' for GIZ India.

The primary goal of the stakeholder consultation was partnership creation and knowledge exchange through open discussion among the Indian and EU stakeholders, financial organisations and businesses. The consultation on "Partnerships and Collaboration for Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency in India" was divided into two sessions. The first session centred on building partnerships between EU-based and Indian businesses, with a primary focus on identifying novel market opportunities for EU-based enterprises in India and fostering new collaborative ventures. The second session emphasised the joint endeavour to conceptualise a Circular Economy Innovation Lab in India, underscoring the shared commitment to sustainable economic development.

The consultation brought together stakeholders and experts working for EU SMEs based in India, key EU actors in the finance sector, universities, EU stakeholders including Member States and their representatives, as well as Indian stakeholders that work in the textile and construction field. The participants also included Labs that work with the Circular Economy globally and start-ups that benefit from it, as well as Labs in India and EU and Indian businesses, all working in the field of Circular Economy.
